SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION

Belitex

Topflow Screed C Belitex, a new cement-based screed that can be laid faster and dries more quickly than traditional screed products, has been rolled-out across the UK. It is now being produced at seven plants – Ewenny, Silvertown, Agecroft, Thrislington, Coventry, Dewsbury and Mountsorrel – with plans to introduce it to more over 2017.

The product, which is an addition to our Topflow range, takes just 14-21 days to dry which provides the customer with much needed extra programme time to lay the final flooring and complete the build on time, whilst helping to minimise construction impacts on the surrounding community.

“It can often take years to develop customer confidence in a new product. With this, it has been instant,” Glanville Norman, Product Development Manager said. The feedback we’ve had from everyone who has used it has been great. Everyone has been extremely happy with it.”

Topflow Screed C Belitex has many sustainable construction advantages, it can be laid thinner than conventional sand and cement screeds, reducing in material quantities and minimising demands on resources whilst creating a potential to increase room height. The need for an additional self-levelling compound for use with conventional screed is also removed due to its capability to achieve an SR2 surface quality finish.

A self-compacting screed can offer additional sustainability benefits such as durability and longevity when compared to a conventionally placed sand cement screed. The quality of conventional sand and cement screeds are dependent on the skill and physical strength of the operative carrying out placement, with quality of compaction inherently difficult to determine. Topflow Screed C Belitex achieves full compaction without the need for external energy input guaranteeing homogeneity. Inadequate and poor compaction can result in defects that require additional remedial activities and if undetected can have a detrimental effect on lifespan.
