With over 150 years of experience we have a breadth of capability and expertise that covers aggregates (including recycled aggregates), asphalt, readymix concrete, cement, lime and powders, mortars, screeds blocks and other building products. Our products are used in a huge range of construction projects, from new homes and offices to schools, hospitals, bridges, roads and flood defences. Some are also used to make other essential products such as steel, paper, glass and drinking water.

In addition, we provide road maintenance and contracting services, surfacing more than 4,800 miles of road in the UK each year, and maintaining a further 13,600 miles of the local road network annually.

With our head office in Solihull in the West Midlands, we operate from more than 400 sites across the UK and are responsible for some 100,000 acres of land. We are a significant UK employer, with a staff complement of around 7,000 people.

Tarmac is a wholly owned subsidiary of CRH plc.

Our Contracting business is the leading supplier of road surfacing and highways maintenance services in the UK.

Cement

We supply a range of bulk and packed cement-based solutions for all types of projects. Our subsidiary company Sapphire Energy Recovery provides waste-derived fuels and substitute raw materials for cement manufacture.

Lime and Powders

We are the UK’s leading supplier of high-purity lime, limestone powders and chemical stone. Our Limbux products are used across the globe for water purification and as essential constituents in the manufacture of iron and steel.

Changes to our business in 2016

We have continued to grow our business during 2016 with focused growth and a number of targeted investments across our UK portfolio. 2016 saw the acquisition of eleven readymixed concrete plants, the development of a new rail facility at our cement plant at Aberthaw, South Wales, Investment in rail capacity at Mountsorrel quarry, Leicestershire and the reopening and upgrading of our second of two aerated block factories at Linford, Essex.

We have also worked hard to integrate our business process with the wider CRH group, most notably achieving compliance with Sarbanes Oxley Act and aligning our business strategy and approach with the CRH’s four strategic imperatives; Continuous improvement, disciplined and focused growth, extracting the benefits of scale and leadership development.
